- עִלְעֵל, עֵו׳II (transpos. of לעלע, reduplic. of לוע; cmp. געגע) to sip. Ḥull.22b משיְעַלְעֲלוּ Ar. (ed. משיְעַלְעוּ) when they are old enough to sip (expl. ib. by ref. to יעלעו, Job 39:30; misinterpreted by Abayi, as if fr. עִלְעָא, to bleed from the side, when the wing is severed); Tosef. ib. I, 15 מששלעלו ed. Zuck., read with Var. משעִילְעֲלוּ.
